Learning to critically evaluate AI-generated content has become an increasingly useful everyday skill in its own right, since these systems can occasionally produce confident-sounding but genuinely inaccurate information, meaning a healthy degree of scepticism and independent fact-checking remains just as important when using AI tools as it does with any other single source of information.

Whatever shape artificial intelligence takes in the years ahead, understanding the basic principles behind how it actually works, learning patterns from data rather than following rigid pre-written rules, offers a genuinely useful foundation for making sense of a technology that looks set to keep playing an increasingly significant role in everyday life.
