Newcastle Pride has confirmed a significant change to its 2026 march route, with organisers promising a more visible celebration in the heart of the city as thousands prepare to take part later this month.
The annual event, taking place on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, marks a new chapter under the leadership of Curious Arts. This year's theme, City of Hope, Streets of Joy, aims to celebrate community, inclusion and visibility while bringing Pride closer to the centre of Newcastle.
Pride march to finish at Grey's Monument.
One of the biggest changes for this year's Newcastle Pride is the route of the popular march. Participants will still gather at the Civic Centre before setting off through the city streets, but instead of finishing at its previous locations, the procession will now conclude at Grey's Monument.
The move places the finale in one of Newcastle's busiest public spaces, allowing more residents, shoppers and visitors to witness the celebration. Organisers hope the central finish will encourage greater public participation while reinforcing Pride's message of visibility and acceptance.
Once the march reaches Grey's Monument, speeches will be delivered by several well-known figures, including North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, who remains one of Britain's most recognisable sporting personalities.
Newcastle prepares for a city-wide celebration.
The Pride march is only one part of a packed weekend programme that stretches across Newcastle city centre.
Events will take place at venues including Theatre Royal, Northern Stage and the Pride Arena at Times Square, creating a festival atmosphere across multiple locations. The weekend begins on Friday, July 24, with the Newcastle Pride 5K, officially started by Dame Kelly Holmes before the wider celebrations continue throughout Saturday and Sunday.
Music fans will also have plenty to enjoy, with performances from Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle, Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard and dance music favourite Katy B among the headline acts scheduled to appear.
Pride continues to grow in Newcastle.
The return of Pride to Newcastle city centre reflects how the festival has evolved into one of the North East's biggest annual events.
Last year's city-wide festival attracted more than 82,000 attendees and generated an estimated £4 million for the local economy. Around 73 percent of visitors travelled from outside Newcastle city centre postcodes, highlighting the event's growing regional appeal. Organisers also found that one in three visitors were attending Pride for the first time, demonstrating the festival's expanding reach.
For Newcastle businesses, restaurants, hotels and entertainment venues, the weekend has become an important boost during the summer season while showcasing the city as an inclusive destination.
Why this year's event matters.
This year's celebrations arrive at a time when many LGBTQIA+ organisations continue to raise concerns about discrimination and online abuse.
Against that backdrop, organisers say the 2026 theme reflects conversations held with community members, who identified joy, togetherness and visibility as their biggest priorities. Rather than focusing solely on entertainment, Newcastle Pride aims to create welcoming spaces where people feel comfortable expressing themselves and celebrating openly.
The decision to finish the march at Grey's Monument reinforces that message by placing Pride at the very centre of one of the UK's most recognisable city centres.
With thousands expected to line the streets once again, Newcastle looks set to deliver another colourful weekend that celebrates diversity while highlighting the city's reputation for welcoming people from every background.
Whether attending the march, enjoying the live music or simply soaking up the atmosphere around the city centre, visitors can expect one of Newcastle's standout events of the summer calendar.
